Every day here in Quarteira, Portugal, I see or understand something NEW. Since many of you haven't been to Portugal, I would like to share the differences I have found.
- Going to my bank when I first got here, they had my Colorado address. I tried to change it, but you cannot until you have a lease to prove where you live, and you have to go to the Finance Department to get it changed. I went this week, and NOPE, you need the residency card FIRST. SO, maybe in a few months, I can get my address changed.
- There are no green onions here. I use them in many things I cook, and haven't been able to find them, so I bought a leek. Close enough.
- There is NO AMAZON. OH MY do I have withdrawals! You used to be able to go online and have something delivered within a day or same day. There are some in Spain (in Asturias and Aragón), and I thought there was one being built here, but Google says no.
- When you have an emergency, you call 112.
- If you plan to drive in Portugal, you are required to get a local driver's license. You have to take the written and driving tests. The written test can be offered in English; you just have to request it early enough.
- Saw my first homeless person today.
Tonight at 6 pm Portugal is playing "football" with Congo, and many restaurants in the area are offering discounts and deals to get people to come in and drink!
