Funny thing how a certain prompt will get one’s mind traveling down so many different paths simultaneously. When I read this month’s challenge sponsored by Debe Maxwell, CRS and Lew Corcoran prompted by Patricia Feager suggestion, I thought of the original quote by President Kennedy, then a totally unrelated song to the quote but related to the name Active Rain, a short lived TV series and my own personal values.
Glen Yarbrough in 1965 sang this song “Baby the Rain Must Fall.” In his lyrics, several lines remind me of this challenge.
“Wherever my heart leads me.” Is the first one. Much of Active Rain is because members have big hearts. They share their experiences and their insights. Both often provide food for thought as well as a chuckle here or there.
Old Members and newer members can share their heartfelt stories, ask questions and respond to existing posts. The key here is having a heart that is willing to share.
Then the next four lines also reminded me of this challenge:
- I am not rich or famous
- But who can ever tell
- I don’t know now what waits for me
- Maybe heaven, maybe hell
The Active (Stressed Active) members are independent small business owners who appreciate how this real estate forum can help them especially through referrals. Yes, in real estate, we may be in heaven or hell depending upon day of the week. Yesterday was hell for me. Again by actively supporting other members possible we can provide more "heaven" days than "hellish" ones. My thanks to Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® CRS,ABR,PSA,RCS-D, CFSP 's blog post where he spoke with Kathy Streib and that helped to return me to heaven this morning.
Years ago there was a very short lived TV mini-series call “Dinotopia” One of the lines was:
“One raindrop raises the sea.”
Each raindrop (think comment) we make, each blog we write, each question we ask raises our own competency and the overall competency of our real estate industry. Heaven knows our real estate industry needs to rise in the public's perception.
From my own personal values, I believe is when one joins a collective forum such as Active Rain or an organization we have an obligation to ACTIVELY participate. This forum is not about self-promotion, but rather building trust based on our relationships with others. We can also invite like minded real estate professionals into this long lived Active Rain real estate forum.
The question to ask yourself:
“How, by what specific actions, can I rain on Active Rain thus allowing this dynamic forum to grow to that next level?"
