Responsibility is Both a Personal & Social Obligation

The newest addition to the Town of Flower Mound is the Douglas A. Brown, Chief Warrant Officer, Veteran's Plaza located next to the Flower Mound Public Library. Mr. Brown has been a longtime Flower Mound resident. He is a World War 11 veteran who served for more than two decades in the U.S. Army and had dedicated his retirement years to giving back to the community. He served as a local election judge for 18 years and was the sole member of the town's veteran liaison board for over a decade. In his spare time, he refurbished more than 1,300 computers for veterans and job seekers. The Town can always count on Doug to attend special events. It is fitting this Plaza be named after him. Recently, Douglas A. Brown was at the dedication and gave a speech.

"In Scripture, "be not afraid" addresses both physical and spiritual fears, including danger, persecution, and uncertainty. It emphasizes that faith in God's presence, guidance, and protection allows believers to face life's challenges with courage and peace. Trust transforms fear into confidence."

Yesterday was the 4th of July. I chose not to attend big events and stayed home. I had a duty to do chores. But I did watch the President's Speech on T.V. and saw the incredible fireworks. Early this morning I chose to visit the Veteran's Plaza to meditate and remember all the sacrifices Veterans have done for our country and for all of us to enjoy Freedom. The man in the photograph was the only veteran in the park. I thanked him. He smiled.

Surrounding the inner circle of the Plaza is a wall with falling water. The water dripping down into the ground is a good place to remember the tears of loved ones no longer on earth. For those who died, there is no more suffering.

"We are inspired by the sense of responsibility veterans feel for their country and fellow citizens."  We all have a duty to do more for our children, veterans, community, and our country. In the back section of the Plaza is a special Memorial for the children of Flower Mound - may little angels rest in peace surrounded by the love of all who served and live(d)
in Flower Mound.

We are inspired to "remember that responsibility is both a personal and social obligation, requiring awareness, courage, and ethical action. Duty on the other hand often involves fulfilling obligations even when inconvenient, highlighting the moral and practical importance of commitment. Together, they inspire self-discipline, integrity, and purposeful living, reminding us that actions impact both ourselves and the wider community."

Hi Patricia... Douglas Brown sounds like a role model for each and every one of us. Naming a plaza after a man who did so much for his neighbors and country almost doesn't seem like enough. Imagine what a different world we would live in if every town had at least one such person in it.

Nina Hollander, Broker - Doug Brown is an ordinary man who continues to do extraordinary things for other people - especially veterans. It's people like him who makes me proud to live inside this Flower Mound Community.

You are so right! This would be a completely different world if there were more people like him. Honestly, every town in American could benefit if there were leaders like him.

George Souto - rarely do we get to meet and know a community member with a self-servant heart. Doing good deeds for others is severely lacking and Doug Brown is a shining example of what good people can do.

What a moving tribute, Patricia. It is so rare to find someone who embodies that level of self-service and commitment over such a long period, and naming the plaza after him is such a fitting honor for a life so well-lived. Your reflection on the "dual obligation" of responsibility is a powerful reminder that our actions—however quiet or ordinary they may seem—really do ripple out to shape the communities we live in. Thank you for sharing such a poignant example of what true citizenship looks like.
