The Unexpected Gift of Friendship
"A friend is a loved one who awakens your life in order to free the wild possibilities within you."— John O'Donohue
This quote made me stop and think.
Before this summer, I had never watched a World Cup soccer match.
Now, I haven't wanted to miss one.
Of course, the athleticism is impressive. The competition is exciting. But what has captured my attention most isn't what happens on the field.
It's what's happening in the stands...and in the streets.
I've read story after story about strangers from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds gathering around one shared passion for the game. Complete strangers have become friends while celebrating victories, consoling one another after heartbreaking losses, and discovering that they have far more in common than they ever imagined.
It made me realize something.
Friendship doesn't always begin with years of knowing someone.
Sometimes it begins with simply sharing a moment.
A conversation.
A smile.
A common interest.
An experience that reminds us we're more alike than we are different.
In a world that often seems focused on what divides us, it has been refreshing to watch something that brings people together.
Whether it's a soccer match, a neighborhood event, or simply meeting someone new, we all have opportunities every day to build connections that enrich our lives.
One Lesson I've Learned
Some of life's greatest friendships begin with one shared moment and a willingness to say hello.
How will you make a new connection this week?
Until next Monday...
Keep learning, keep growing, and Be the Difference.
