I remember hiding under the bed as a kid, most often during a game of hide and seek. Funny how back then we didn't worry about about how dirty it may have been (that being said my mom was an extreme "neatnic" and there most likely was not a speck of dust under there).
I have not heard of an adult hiding under the bed for some "alone time". Today men have their Man Caves and women have their She Sheds.
If you Google those two terms chances are you will see some elaborate Caves and Sheds. In reality most of us guys have a basement or a garage. Girls have their sewing rooms or exercise rooms. Rarely are either one elaborate.
The one thing I insist on in my space(s) is music.
When you own your own home it's easy to find a space to call your own, even with a smaller home. I have a space in the basement I can use year around. I also have the garage and a shed that are unheated so they are only good during 3 seasons.
The point of this post is that personal space is NOT a luxury, it's often necessary to hold a family/marriage together. We all need "space". It's a lot easier to find when you own your own home.
