Home Is More Than a Place

As America celebrates its 250th birthday, what does home really mean?

For me, home has always been much more than a house. It's where families gather, children grow up, holidays are celebrated, and memories are made. After more than thirty years in real estate, I've had the privilege of watching thousands of families begin new chapters in homes they would eventually call their own. That thought also reminds me of my own family.

Both of my parents were born in Germany. America became their home, and because of that, it became mine too.  Dad passed when I was 8, so it was my mom who taught me to appreciate what I had, to work hard, to treat people with kindness, and to never take opportunity for granted. Looking back, I realize those lessons shaped the way I've lived my life.  So many opportunities...just look at my career.  Whether I was working as a pediatric nurse, being a wife and stay-at-home mom, creating pottery, writing a book, hosting my radio show, or helping someone buy or sell a home, people have always been the best part of the journey.

One of the things I love most about real estate is that every closing represents a new beginning. Some buyers are purchasing their very first home. Others are right-sizing after many wonderful years. Some are moving closer to family. Others are simply starting over. Every story is different, but hope is usually part of the picture.

America continues to be a place where people can work hard, help one another, dream big, and build a life that matters. As we celebrate this milestone birthday, I'm thankful for the generations who came before us and hopeful for those who will follow.

This country gave my family a place to build a life, and it continues to give so many others the opportunity to do the same.
