Friday Flags: Respect for a Lost US Senator

Across our country, respect is being shown for US Sen. Lindsey Graham, (R-SC) who passed this week, shortly after turning 71.

A long time representative for South Carolina, he often championed legislation that would benefit the country.

As a member of an elite group, 100 US Senators, he deserves the respect, not only of his constituents, but also the rest of the country.  Flags have been requested (ordered) to be flown at half-mast until Saturday

On Wednesday, as I was passing in front of the clubhouse during league play, I took the opportunity with the flag breezing to take this photo.

Of note, the haze that engulfed our area caused by the wildfires in Canada and Minnesota that are moving across the country and making the air tough to breathe.

It is a somber reminder to see the flags at half-mast, Ed. Your photo is a beautiful and respectful tribute, and I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with such poor air quality from the wildfires. Thank you for consistently sharing these poignant community moments with us here on ActiveRain.

Good morning Ed. Lindsey was a true public service. A long career and a low net worth means he gave his all for the benefit of the people, not himself. We need more of him. And we need less of the smoke from the Canadian fires. It was bad here in the Chicago area yesterday. Enjoy your day.

I like that the president requested flags to be at half-mast to honor his life.  I haven't seen much of it in my area, but I haven't really looked for it.  I will keep an eye out today.

We have a smoky morning in Maryland and a Code Purple air quality alert but the flags are flying in our community. Have a great day.

Very sad, but very nice that you show a tribute to him with this flag photo! By the way, the smoke here is bad also.

Hello Ed and I have my flag at half mast since Sunday.  I am not sure when it is proper to put it back up.  Do you know?

Hi Brian:

I've seen plenty of flags in my area at half mast...a solemn reminder of the recent and untimely death of Senator Graham.

Sorry that you are dealing with the smokey haze...the air quality sounds pretty nasty over quite a large area.

Jeff

Even tho I often disagreed witb Senator Graham's position, I admire him for not taking financial advantage of his position.

Graham had an estimated net worth of roughly $1.4 million at the time of his passing in July 2026. Despite serving in Congress for over 30 years, his wealth ranked 294th among the 535 voting members, with the majority of his assets held in mutual funds, government bonds, and real estate

Flags being lowered is definitely the right thing to do with respect to a Senator passing. Are there times when its lowered too easily? Seems like it lowered more than its up sometimes.
