250th Birthday Greetings to USA
For the AR July 2026 Challenge, members Kathy Streib and Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Real Estate Svcs. requested us to tell stories about our feelings about the USA and perhaps share special memories about July 4th.
This year - at the porch railing - the youngest member of our family group with us watches the wind move the flag around. Seemed like magic to her - flag still and then flag moving up, down and straight out.
Every July 4th for the past 40+ years, our family has gotten together at a house situated at the edge of the water in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Some years, there have been gatherings with FOUR generations of family members!
Watching the various children (now adults) over the years in the same house and the identical environment sparks a sense of wonder. This summer we delighted in the announcement of an engagement! One marvels at how they have grown and now have lives and families of their own. Then at the 4th of July, we share time with their families.
Each evening the family eats together. People take turns being in charge of the meals. Before the board games competition for the evening, after dinner we take a walk on the beach. How long that walk might be often depends on the weather! Storms can come along quickly at Gulf Shores!
Re-reading the post, it sounds like an idyllic experience. Actually, it is just that. Our commitment to each other while living together in a small house allows us to ignore small differences in pursuit of a calm time together.
Gratitude for the life we have here in the USA is a strong factor in our family life as well. It is wonderful that we are able to get together from several different states to enjoy family time and-- of course-- the beach!
Why am I proud to be an American? Because people have had the option to live a full and successful life here generation after generation.
