Lake Rules: Where the Best Memories Are Made

As a Realtor in Southeast Wisconsin, I spend a lot of time helping people find the perfect place to call home. But if you asked me where I feel most at home, the answer is easy—a quiet Wisconsin lake with a fishing pole in my hand, bare feet in the grass, and people I love nearby.
I've always believed that some of life's greatest adventures don't come with airline tickets or fancy resorts. They happen on a dock before sunrise, when the water is as smooth as glass and the fish are just beginning to stir. They happen while laughing because someone lost a worm, tangled a fishing line, or proudly caught a fish that was "this big"... until the story gets a little bigger every year!
One of my favorite parts of summer is leaving my shoes behind. There's something wonderfully freeing about walking barefoot through cool grass, warm sand, or along the edge of the water. It reminds me to slow down and enjoy the little things we often rush past.

Evenings might be my favorite time of all. Watching the sun melt into the horizon while fireflies begin their nightly dance never gets old. Add a crackling bonfire, stories that somehow become funnier every time they're told, and maybe a marshmallow or two that's just a little too toasted—that's a perfect Wisconsin evening.

As someone who helps families buy and sell homes, I've learned an important truth. People rarely remember the square footage or the paint color years later. What they remember are the moments they shared there. The fish that got away. The grandchildren catching fireflies. The family gathered around a campfire. The sunset everyone stopped to admire. Those are the memories that truly make a house feel like home.
Maybe that's why this sign speaks to me.
Go barefoot. Read a book. Jump off the dock. Catch fireflies. Watch the sunset. Go fishing. Build a bonfire. Make memories.
Those aren't just lake rules.
They're pretty good rules for life.
