Not All Storms Come to Disrupt Your Life

Not All Storms Come to Disrupt Your Life. Some Come to Clear Your Path.

Hearing that quote, I immediately thought about real estate. Most people think of a storm as something to avoid. A canceled contract. A failed inspection. A financing problem. A buyer who changes their mind. A seller who receives disappointing news. We naturally see these moments as setbacks.

But after all my years in real estate, I've learned something different. Some storms are actually clearing the path.

I've had buyers devastated because they lost "the perfect house." A week later, they found a home they loved even more. I've watched inspections uncover hidden problems that would have become expensive surprises after settlement. I've seen delayed closings give families the extra time they needed to make a better decision.

At the time, every one of those situations felt like a storm. Looking back, every one of them cleared the path.

Real estate has taught me that timing has a funny way of making sense long after we're finished questioning it. And...Life works much the same way.

Sometimes we spend so much energy trying to get back to the path we were on that we don't notice a better one opening right in front of us.

When I spent too much time with for a new listing, it felt like a storm. Yet, something much more valuable happened. Instead of simply finishing one listing, I realized I needed a completely new system for organizing every listing from start to finish. The storm didn't just slow me down. It showed me a better road.

So, the next time life sends a storm your way, whether you're buying a home, selling one, or simply navigating everyday life, don't be too quick to assume it's there to stop you. It may simply be clearing the path to where you were meant to go all along.

I was reading something the other day about allowing life to flow and not to fight against the current. We save our energy that way and often get a better result. Likewise, allowing the storm to clear the path and not labelling it as bad may allow us to enjoy the results sooner.

Margaret, experience teaches us that what feels like a setback may actually be protection or redirection. A failed inspection, delayed closing, or lost property can be painful in the moment, but it may prevent a larger problem or lead to a better opportunity. Sometimes the storm really is clearing the path.

Margaret years ago I learned to think of these so called 'storms' as opportunities to see other ways of doing things.  Still works for me to this day!  I don't get all nuts when things don't go my 'way'.  Nope.  No sense in wasting my energy going down a slippery slope.

I think that after going through life's storms, we learn that some of them might just be an opportunity to learn and find those opportunities.

Margaret very well said.  Sometimes what appears to be a storm in our lives, ends up being a blessing instead.

We don't get many storms in my neck of the woods, so when it is a rainstorm, we are usually grateful, and they rarely cause much damage, haha.

When others complain about storms or flooding, you would probably like to have just a little bit of that water.

Hello, Miss Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason. It may take some time to "see" and understand the reason, yet the reason is eventually exposed.

Hi Margaret,

Nice post! And a good reminder that our destiny isn’t fully in our hands. We can only control and live the moment we are in.
