Looking Beyond the Front Door ~ Every Home Has a Personality

Yes, each buyer has a different perfect home, a different personality that fits. I remember one couple who came through a listing I had. The home was a few hundred years old and the kitchen was very small. Quite a few buyers' feedback dealt with their dislike of the kitchen size. This couple came in and oohed and aahed over the kitchen; they loved the placement of everything and loved the size. They thought it was charming. They bought the house, and still love it 8 years later.

Every home has a personality, just like a person. I do not like cold sterile homes (or people, for that matter).

Photos don't tell the real story Dorie. You have to see it in person to really appreciate all it may have to offer!

This is so true, I was discussing this with a buyer last week about a home we were looking at. It had a very nice energy, it made you feel relaxed. It was not for them for other reasons, but still it is so true. I remember walking into one house when looking for us and just knowing as I entered that this was the one. It was like it said hello as I entered the front door.

I recall a showing years ago. I had shown this young couple everything in their price range that came on the market. Then one evening we walked into a home and the wife turned to her husband and said "This is it. We're home." He agreed. 
She had only gotten as far as the living room - hadn't examined the kitchen or inspected the bathrooms or bedrooms... she was just home. 

Dorie- as the others have said, this is so true. When we've looked at homes, I walk into the kitchen. If I can see myself preparing a meal there, or having family over in the family room...that's what lets me know "I'm home." 

It's never just about the square footage or the location. It's the feeling. 

There are a lot of times where people don’t realize this, but a home can very much have an essence to it. No doubt.

Dorie, I liked the metaphor you used about connecting with a home, and hearing their language of feeling, their whisper into our souls. It's somewhat of a magic that happens.

Hi Dorie Dillard Austin TX - This is true! You can tell a lot about people once you get past the front door! When the buyer feels that sense of belonging, they just know there's something inside that resonates strongly with their personality. 

What I tell most Buyers is you will know the right one when you see it and go with that initial gut instinct which can go both ways it's either the right one on not.

Nailed it!  Buyers use their emotions to buy homes and seeing themselves living in a home is a HUGE part of it.  Great post Dorie!  

Dorie it has been a long time since I purchased a home.  But when I purchased the home, I have lived in since 1981, I knew it was the one as soon as I walked in the door.

This is so true. It is always wonderful to recognize when a buyer "connects" with a home.

I agree Dorie..homes do have personalities and it seems that they have feelings too!!  I refered to my vacation town home as being "haunted" and suddenly, I cannot find many things!!!!!!! LoL

I agree with this totally Dorie Dillard Austin TX .  I'm not sure if it is the house or the people that live in the house that give it its personality.  But either way, every house feels different. 

So many buyers a looking for their "forever" home. Once in a while a home will speak to them and they will be very excited.
