Before He Was a Superstar… I Hosted Trace Adkins in Kenosha

Sometimes life gives you memories that only get better with time, and this is definitely one of mine.

Back in 2003, I had the opportunity to host Trace Adkins at The Brat Stop in Kenosha—long before he became the country music superstar everyone knows today. At the time, he was already making a name for himself in country music, but none of us could have imagined just how big his career would become.

As both a Realtor and a lifelong country music fan, I couldn't have been more excited. Country concerts have always been about more than just the music to me. They're about the people, the stories, and the memories that come with them.

One of the highlights of the evening was the Meet & Greet before the show. I remember standing next to Trace for this photo and immediately thinking, "Wow... he is TALL!" I knew he was a big guy, but seeing him in person was something else. At just about 5 feet tall, I felt like I was standing next to a giant! It made for a pretty funny picture that still makes me smile every time I see it.

What impressed me most wasn't his height, though—it was how friendly and down-to-earth he was. He took time with everyone, smiled for photos, signed autographs, and made people feel appreciated. You could tell he genuinely enjoyed meeting his fans.

The concert itself was incredible. The Brat Stop was packed with energy, and everyone was singing along. There's something special about seeing an artist before they reach superstar status. Looking back now, it's amazing to realize I was there before the sold-out arenas, television appearances, and all the awards that would follow.

Over the years, I've been blessed to meet many wonderful people through my real estate career and my love of community events, but this evening remains one of my favorite memories. It's a reminder that sometimes the best stories come from saying "yes" to opportunities and enjoying the moment before anyone realizes they're witnessing a future legend.

Twenty-plus years later, I still smile when I look at this picture. Not because I met a celebrity—but because I remember a fun evening filled with laughter, great country music, wonderful people, and one unforgettable Meet & Greet with the tallest country singer I'd ever stood next to!
