The Best Part of Happy Hour Isn't the Drink

One of the things that makes The Villages so special is how easy it is to connect with people.

Every afternoon across the community, neighbors gather on lanais, meet friends at a restaurant, or enjoy live music at one of the town squares. Some raise a glass of wine. Others enjoy iced tea, sparkling water, or a cold beer. The beverage isn't really the point.

As Dr. J.T. Anderson shared with us, the real value is slowing down long enough to enjoy conversation, laughter, and friendship.

After more than 31 years of caring for patients and professional athletes, JT understands that good health is about much more than exercise and nutrition. Recovery, sleep, meaningful relationships, and a sense of belonging all play an important role in living well.

That's one of the reasons so many people thrive in The Villages.

Healthy living isn't just about what's on your plate or in your glass.

It's about who's sitting across the table.

So whether you're enjoying happy hour on your lanai, meeting neighbors at the town square, or catching up with friends over dinner, take a moment to appreciate the conversation.

It just might be one of the healthiest parts of your day.

This is absolutely true, Dick. It's about the connection with other people, not the drink itself.

Good morning Dick. You nailed it. The biggest draw to "happy hour" is the conversation. The choice of beverage is up to you. Enjoy your happy hours.

I love the idea of a happy hour and meeting folks, just not sure I agree the best part is NOT the drink. I kinda dig the drink  :)

It is certainly healthier for us to not consume adult libations, especially over-consuming them, haha.

Dick Betts every time I see the phrase "Happy Hour" I get a flash from my days in Boot Camp.  We also had a "Happy Hour", except our "Happy Hour" was not so happy.  Once you had 10 demerits you had to do a "Happy Hour" of drilling.  You also had to do a "Happy Hour" if you had any demerits before you could graduate from boot camp.  Everybody got demerits, for example I got 2 demerits because one morning the seam on my pillow was facing the wrong direction, and I got another 5 demerits because on collar on one of my shirts was not folded exactly over the third button.  So I had a total of 7 demerits, so I had to do a "Happy Hour" before graduating.  In my case because those demerits needed to be cleared at the end, so I had to do the "Happy Hour" on a Sunday, and the Sunday "Happy Hours" were 2 hours not one.  So "Happy Hour" has a special meaning for me.
