I used to like the game "Pick Up Sticks". It's been years but I'd probably still enjoy it today.
Without asking the author of the cartoon (Timmothy N. Timm) I know the story behind the comic strip. Our home has 7 trees on it, 4 of which are near 100 years old or even older.
Repeating a message I have given several times over the two decades: Trees require maintenance.
Leaves, twigs, branches and entire trees fall down. It all costs money. Especially if a tree falls and hits your house.
Thankfully downed trees that damage your home are usually covered by your standard home owners insurance.
When it comes to the seasonal dropping of leaves the biggest cost is the amount of time it takes to clean them up. Of course there is the cost of rakes and bags as well.
About those sticks: In the Timm household it's a family "gathering". They are collected and dropped into my backyard fire pit, sometimes along with leaves, for a nice little fire.
