August Challenge- What to Do to Stay Cool In Houston in the Summer

A great entry into the August challenge on Houston. The humidity is high there so lots of fun things to do indoors at this time of the year. So many friendly people as all the World Cup Travelers found out when the came for the matches!

Good morning, Kathy... great entry. Your zoo sounds amazing, It would probably be my first stop, followed by a visit to at least one of Houston's 300 verified ice cream shops!

These are great ideas of things to do in your area while staying cool. Personally, I think I'd skip a visit in August!

Kathy, pretty sure I would melt at 90% humidity.  Around here, if it get to 60% or higher, I just stay in, too humid.  Right now it is 94, which is hot, but only 32% humidity, and there was a pretty good breeze from the beach today.   I went for a walk along the beach today.   

My answer would be take a trip to the mountains in the summer. Houston is hot from June till October.

I will take my 120-degree dry heat in the East Valley over the high humidity you have there, haha.  It seems like there are plenty of ways to still enjoy the summer months in Houston!

That post hit the spot like a cool breeze on a sticky August day, Kathy Streib, and I loved how you packed in so many fun ways to beat the heat in Houston. It made me smile and think, well, who wouldn’t want to wander tunnels or chill out at a ballgame when the sun’s doing its best to melt us. Thanks for sharing all that good stuff. Kathy, These are great ideas to stay cool in Houston. I think many of us are trying to keep cool and stay out of this heat wave!

Kathy I was in Huston back in July of 1992, and the temperature was 104 degrees, there was NO staying cool.  BUT the activities you mentioned above would make that high heat more enjoyable.☺️

Kathy, thank you so much for participating in this month's Summer Challenge! ❤️ You had me laughing with your opening line because, WOW--103–108° heat index is NO JOKE! As a fellow Southerner, I can certainly relate to planning summer activities around great air conditioning. 😊

I had no idea Houston had six miles of underground tunnels—that alone was fascinating! And between an indoor Astros game, Space Center Houston, and over 300 ice cream shops, I'd say you've definitely mastered the art of staying cool while still enjoying everything your city has to offer.

Thanks for sharing such a fun and informative look at summer into Houston. You definitely made me want to visit...just as long as we can hop from one air-conditioned stop to the next! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Tunnels under the city has always fascinated me. Like, who had the original thought to build those? Yes, we need our air conditioning in the south, but Houston has LOTS to do anytime of year.

Kathy sounds like we're in the same boat!  LOL!  It's going to be 113 here again today and I'm so done with the heat!!

Kathy, the Houston area in the summer would be slightly uncomfortable, especially for someone like me that likes the outdoors.

Well you certainly provide a lot of options for staying cool in Houston!!
