When Charlotte Hits 95+°, Things Get Slimy Indoors
When the Charlotte thermometer is hovering in the mid and high 90's and simply walking across a parking lot feels like an outdoor activity, air-conditioned fun starts sounding especially good.
Charlotte's heat has met its match at the Sloomoo Institute Charlotte, an immersive slime playground at The Metropolitan in Midtown where getting messy is not only allowed—it’s pretty much the whole point.
The 7,500-square-foot attraction opened this summer, bringing one of the country’s more unusual interactive experiences to Charlotte. Sloomoo began in New York City in 2019 and has since expanded to cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Boston. Charlotte location: You must reserve a time slot when purchasing tickets. General admission ranges from $29.99 to $39.99, depending on the day and time, and includes one 8-ounce DIY slime.
And this isn’t simply a room filled with tubs of slime.
So, What Exactly Do You Do at Sloomoo?
A lot, apparently—and some of it is wonderfully ridiculous.
Visitors can head to the DIY Slime Bar, with millions of possible combinations of colors, scents and textures, and create an eight-ounce slime to take home.
Then there’s Lake Sloomoo, a 500-gallon pool of slime you can actually walk across. Yes, walk across.
For anyone who watched Nickelodeon and secretly wondered what it would be like to get completely slimed, there’s a slime waterfall offering the full head-to-toe experience.
Prefer your fun a little less gooey? There’s also a kinetic sand play area and Loomoosh’s Lounge, where cameras and motion sensors turn your movements into colorful slime-inspired projections.
The Charlotte location reportedly makes about 600 gallons of slime on-site every day, which gives you some idea of just how seriously they take the business of being messy.
Not Just For Kids
While Sloomoo certainly has plenty of kid appeal, this experience was designed for adults to get in on the fun, too. That makes it an option for family outings, something different with friends, or simply an excuse to act considerably younger than your driver's license suggests.
Sloomoo also offers sensory-friendly hours on select dates, with adjustments intended to make the experience more accessible for visitors with sensory sensitivities.
A Particularly Good Charlotte Summer Idea
Charlotte has no shortage of terrific outdoor activities. But when temperatures climb into the mid-90's and the humidity makes 95° feel considerably hotter, there are days when “indoors and air-conditioned” becomes an amenity all by itself.
Sloomoo adds yet another option to Charlotte's growing list of immersive entertainment—and this one comes with permission to make an absolute mess without having to clean up your own house afterward.
