One of the things I like about our Blue Zone-inspired series is that not everything about healthy aging involves what we eat or how much we exercise. Sometimes it comes down to the people sitting across the table from us.
Loved Ones First is one of the nine principles, and JT talks about how his wife Bethany and his family have remained more important than any professional accomplishment. I think there is a lesson there for all of us.
Life gets busy. Careers, appointments, activities and even retirement can fill a calendar pretty quickly. But years from now, chances are we won't remember most of what kept us so busy. We will remember the dinners, conversations, laughter, trips and ordinary moments we shared with the people we love.
Strong relationships don't happen automatically. They require our time and attention. Sometimes that means something as simple as putting down the phone and actually listening.
When life gets busy, are the people who matter most getting the best of your time, or what's left of it?
