In real estate, this hits home harder than most industries. Agents and analysts can pull the exact same market data, median prices, days on market, inventory levels, or sale-to-list ratios—and craft completely opposite stories depending on the narrative they want.
Without the full context of neighborhood differences, condition, recent price reductions, interest rates, or seasonal trends, the numbers become whatever story best serves the listing presentation, buyer’s agent argument, or market report.
That’s why experienced agents always say statistics only tell the real story when you put them back into the complete picture.
