Given I drive a lot of dirt roads and a few paved ones here in Mohave County, AZ, I am frequently on the road again and thank you Sirius as I listen to the radio. As songs are played, my brain starts connecting current and past experiences both professional as well as personal ones to the title and even the lyrics.
So, I decided to start a series entitled “On the Road Again.” Each blog posting will feature a recent song I heard (usually from the 70’s) and how a recent or even past experience was reflected in that title.
Recently, I had a once happy vacant land listing seller turn into an unhappy seller. Yet, as a professional real estate agent, I had to “carry on” and continue to move forward. I could not allow this one experience to bring me down, to stop my in my tracks and worse yet to create self-doubt.
The lyrics to this song, Carry On, are about love. Yet, when we work with sellers or buyers of real property be it residential homes or vacant land, we sometimes don’t know where those sellers or buyers will be tomorrow? We hope these potential clients will bring us happiness and yet we know from our past experiences we may suffer sorrow.
Carry on is an attitude, a habit of thought, that I believe is ingrained within us as professional real estate agents. Lou Holtz shared these words of wisdom:
It’s not the load that breaks you down,
it’s the way you carry it.
