One of my buyers from Nashville called me today worried about something that probably crosses the mind of a lot of people moving to Florida. Bugs! And specifically, termites.
Yes, we have bugs. We also have sunshine, palm trees and golf carts, so apparently there had to be a tradeoff somewhere. Termites are something to take seriously in Florida, but that doesn’t mean every house is being eaten from the inside out. A good home inspection can look for signs of termite activity or damage, and many homeowners have regular pest and termite protection. It’s something to check, not something to lose sleep over.
Then there are our other Florida residents. Ants, mosquitoes, lovebugs, no-see-ums and the famous palmetto bug, which sounds almost tropical and charming until you learn it’s basically Florida’s public-relations name for a big cockroach. Most are more annoying than dangerous and routine pest control handles a lot of them.
After living in Florida since 2008, I’ve learned there are things you get used to and Florida bugs are one of them. If bugs are making you nervous about moving here, ask questions. My Nashville buyer did today and after about 15 minutes, I think she felt a whole lot better.
