One of my favorite things about summer in Oconee County is that Saturday morning can start with a trip to the farmers market instead of a grocery store.
By August, the tables tell you exactly what season we are in.
Tomatoes are ripe, peaches are sweet, beans are plentiful, corn is ready for supper, and there always seems to be something that makes me change my dinner plans.
That is part of living here.
Real Estate Is More Than the House
When buyers move to Oconee County, they usually start by telling me how many bedrooms they want, whether they need acreage, and how much they can spend.
But somewhere during the search, the conversation changes.
They begin asking where people buy fresh vegetables, where they can hike, how far they are from the lake, and what there is to do on Saturday morning.
Those questions matter because you are not simply buying four walls and a roof.
You are choosing how you want to live.
Summer Has Its Own Rhythm
Around here, summer mornings are best started early.
You can visit the market, bring home fresh vegetables and peaches, spend the afternoon at Lake Keowee, Lake Hartwell, or one of our waterfalls, and still be home in time for supper.
Some people want restaurants and shopping within a few minutes.
Others would rather live farther out where they can hear the birds and see more stars than streetlights.
Oconee County gives us both.
Local Food Connects Us to the Area
There is something different about buying tomatoes from someone who grew them nearby.
You start recognizing the farmers. You learn which stand has your favorite peaches. You begin planning meals around what is actually in season.
These are little things that do not appear on an MLS sheet.
Yet they are often the very things people remember after they move here.
When I market real estate, I try to remember that buyers are purchasing more than square footage.
They are buying Saturday mornings, summer evenings, mountain drives, lake afternoons, and a community.
Sometimes the best way to understand an area is simply to spend a Saturday morning living like a local.
