Flying The Friendly Skies.

As Titus has recognized, not everything in the friendly skies is friendly. For that matter not all skies are friendly (just thinking about the bad weather in the news this past weekend).

I think United Airlines slogan was, and again now, brilliant. Who doesn't like friendly? Of course it only takes one employee to make us sigh and say "yeah, right".

Regretfully the same applies to any employer, industry, service, or person. Double jeopardy enters in when you advertise "Fast and Friendly Service".

Our occupation is wrought with peril in this regard. Not only do we need to be at the top of our game when we meet a prospect, we also need to be very careful through the entire transaction.

Just like that one eagle in the sky makes for a very unfriendly sky for Titus, one bad player in our business can make the entire industry something to avoid for an otherwise potential client.

This is a good place to end this post BUT I want to add one more thought: On initial contact with a potential first time home buyer everything goes smashingly well. You both leave walking on air. You send the client to a lender you hope to start a business relationship with but you do NOT know him/her well. Said lender ends up treating your client like an eagle pouncing on a guinea pig. How do you think this is going to end... you recommended the lender!

Be careful who you recommend. This holds true not only for your recommendation of lender but also home inspector, insurance person, contractor, cleaner, yard service, etc, etc.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

You hit the nail on the head, Bob! Who you partner with matters immensely. We can be as 'friendly' as the skies, but if our vendors aren't on the same page, the transaction hits major turbulence. Thank you for this excellent reminder to vet our recommendations carefully! 🙌✨

Thank you Carmen Brooks . When I saw Timmothy's cartoon I was not sure where I was going to go with it. As I dove in I realized exactly as you said, be aware of the importance of our recommendations of related vendors.

Good afternoon Bob,

Who you partner with matters on the team you surround yourself. Be sure you vet them before recommending them as it could come back to bite you!

Bob "RealMan" Timm every one involved in a Real Estate transaction needs to be professional and on top of their game.  All it takes is one member of the team to not do their part to create very stormy conditions.

Good morning, Bob. I'm very persnickety (of course my husband says that's my middle name) about whom I recommend or refer to my clients. And I only ever refer people I've worked with successfully for year, people I've personally used, or people my most persnickety clients refer to me.

Nina Hollander, Broker I believe I've read a post you made about vendors some time in the past and I know they need to meet very high standards to make your approved list.

Good point about referrals - when we give them, it definitely reflects on us. So we shouldn't refer anyone we wouldn't send our family to.

It does reflect on us Kat Palmiotti and even if we do everything right our referrals can sink our boat when it comes to a good recommendation from the client about us.
