How Much does it Cost to Live in Portugal?

By
Industry Observer DRE# ER40011786

Portugal is seeing the highest numbers of people applying for residency now.   Immigrants now make up over 14% of the population within the Country.   They were seeing so many migrating here, that they made some of the regulations a bit stricter, prohibiting some from entering and staying.

Portugal’s resident population has grown to 11.4 million, driven entirely by net migration off-setting a natural population decline.

BTW - the difference between the dollar and euro today is .14.  (.86Euro to $1.00)

Many incoming immigrants are finding the cost of living is much more reasonable here than many areas in the States.   This graphic was just put out.   I know the area I live in, is a bit more expensive, as it is in the Algarve, and by the sea.

A real estate agent in Portugal created these graphics, and did a great job.

It's interesting to see how Portugal's population growth and residency numbers are shifting right now. While your post gives a great overview of the rising interest, I wanted to mention that I wasn't entirely sure what the euro or local currency amounts shown in the graphics translate to in US dollars at current exchange rates. Thanks for sharing these helpful insights and keeping us informed on international real estate trends!

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518 I think many in the US are thinking of moving somewhere and many are moving here.   Thank you for bringing up the difference between the euro and dollar, hadn't thought of that when drafting this post.

Nice breakdown. Have you found that a large percentage of people also speak at least some English?

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 I only made it as far north as Porto, so have added this town to one I will see on my Portugal road trip.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty Yes, but those above 55 or so, never were taught in school, so they may not, unless they had to have it in their jobs.   Almost all young people do except those coming from Brazil.  English is not mandatory in school there.   I did have an UBER driver the other day from Brazil, and had excellent English.
