Charlotte Ranks Among the Nation’s Top 10 Real Estate Markets In 2026
Charlotte has earned another impressive national ranking — and this one is all about real estate.
In its newly released 2026 Best Real Estate Markets study, WalletHub ranked Charlotte the #9 best real estate market in the United States, placing the Queen City among some of the strongest housing markets in the country. Even more impressive, Charlotte ranked #1 among large U.S. cities.
More Than Just Home Prices
What makes this ranking particularly meaningful is that WalletHub didn't simply look at whether home prices were going up or down.
The WalletHub study compared 300 U.S. cities across 17 different metrics designed to measure both the strength of the local real estate market and the economic conditions that support it. The analysis considered factors including:
- Home-price appreciation
- Housing affordability
- Home-value forecasts
- Days on market
- Foreclosure and mortgage delinquency rates
- Building-permit activity
- Population growth
- Job growth
- Unemployment
- Newer housing inventory
Housing-market factors accounted for 80% of the overall score, while affordability and the local economic environment accounted for the remaining 20%.
Charlotte Lands at #9 Nationwide
WalletHub's Top 10 Real Estate Markets for 2026 are:
- Frisco, TX
- McKinney, TX
- Murfreesboro, TN
- Durham, NC
- Denton, TX
- Cary, NC
- Madison, WI
- Allen, TX
- Charlotte, NC
- Irvine, CA
Charlotte isn't the only North Carolina city making a strong showing. Durham ranks #4 and Cary #6, giving North Carolina three cities among the nation's top 10.
Charlotte Is #1 Among Large Cities
Charlotte's overall #9 ranking becomes even more notable when cities are separated by population.
Among cities with populations greater than 300,000, Charlotte ranks #1 in the nation, ahead of Irvine, Raleigh, Henderson, Fort Worth, Nashville, Seattle and Austin.
That's an important distinction. Charlotte isn't being compared only with similarly sized Southeastern cities — it's competing with major housing markets across the country and coming out on top.

What Does This Mean for Charlotte Home Buyers and Sellers?
No national ranking can tell you exactly what an individual home will sell for, whether now is the right time for a particular buyer to purchase, or how conditions differ from one Charlotte neighborhood to another.
However, a ranking based on such a broad combination of housing and economic indicators provides another strong vote of confidence for the Charlotte real estate market.
For buyers, the numbers reinforce the importance of thinking beyond today's mortgage rate or asking price and considering the long-term strength of the market where you're buying.
For homeowners and sellers, Charlotte's national standing speaks to the underlying factors that continue to make real estate here attractive — including economic strength, employment growth, housing demand and continued investment in new housing.
