Best Basil Pesto: Fresh Flavor Friends

In the spirit of contributing to Anna "Banana" Kruchten's weekend recipe ideas, this one is a BIG HIT in my house. Ask Mikey, he likes it, he really, really likes it! He’s currently out back high-fiving the basil plants and blessing the garlic cloves with care.

Best Basil Pesto

Ingredients:

* 6 cups fresh basil leaves

* 6 cloves garlic, peeled

* 3 cups extra virgin olive oil

* 3 teaspoons fine sea salt

* 3 teaspoons ground pepper

* 3/4 cup pine nuts, walnuts or plain almonds (optional)

Yield: Several meals and also depends on how much is used per serving.

Directions:

Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.  When mixing with pasta, add 1/2 cup shredded Parmigiano cheese to the toss. This pesto freezes beautifully for those evenings when time makes other plans. The longest step is boiling the pasta.

Also, excellent smeared on toasted baguette slices or dolloped onto hors d’oeuvres if you’re feeling fancy or just hungry, standing near a cutting board. There you go, Nerd-in approved, Mikey-endorsed, garden-to-blender glory!

May your pesto be forever vibrant and your garlic breath always justified.

Hi Wanda- The only way your basil pesto sauce could get any fresher is if you made the pesto in the garden before it made it to the kitchen!  I haven't made this in years but may giveit a try.

The basil and garlic were picked from the garden right before I made it, Kathy Streib, it was that close! I will be pickling more peppers in the next several days.

Wanda, this sounds delicious, especially with fresh basil straight from the garden. I like that it freezes well too, because having homemade pesto ready for a quick meal is hard to beat. And I agree, garlic breath is a small price to pay for something this good!

Good morning, Wanda... I do like a pasta dish with pesto. But to make my own? Not something I ever think about. Maybe if I had fresh ingredients like yours, I'd think about it more!

That is my kind of recipe and one that I would actually make and use!  All-natural ingredients are right up my alley, haha.

This sounds quite yummy, Wanda.
Who wouldn't want to eat pesto pasta that includes basil and garlic that has been blessed by Mikey himself?  Have a great Sunday!

Healthy is always good.  I think pesto, especially one that you make, can make the dish go over the top with the first bite.

After all these years, I discovered it is the simplest thing to make and we have plenty of basil and tomatoes, Nina Hollander, Broker. We often have Caprese Salad Skewers during the week when time takes a break! So easy as well.

Total flavor bomb, Kat Palmiotti! I will put it in the fridge overnight to let the flavors mingle more and then skim some olive oil off the top and then have Basil Olive Oil for other meals.

There are quite a few containers in the freezer right now, I might have to gift a few to family and friends, Debe and the basil keeps coming. You and Ray will enjoy the recipe, I just know it!

Wanda I've never made Pesto before because it's been so easily available in certain stores.   But now I'm thinking of how good the house would be smelling if I made it from scratch!  Yummy!
