Heron Check out the new event being offered by the Occoquan River Communities.  On July 27th at three major locations on the Occoquan River a day of events are planned for everyone.  You can stop by Occoquan Regional Park to see an authentic 1800's Oyster Boat or take a river taxi to Belmont Bay to tour the 65 foot American Spirit Schooner.

The Town of Occoquan will have historic craft demonstrations and a Taste of Occoquan with 9 different restaurants participating.  Each venue will have food and some locations will have live bands.  In addition to what is happening at the river communities you will also be able to get a sneak peak at the new Lorton Workhorse Arts Center at the old Lorton Prison grounds.

This is the first event that the new non-profit Occoquan River Communities group is planning and you don't want to miss it. So check out the full schedule at the new Occoquan River Communities website and watch for the signs on Route 123 South and Route 1 South to direct you to the event.

 See you there!

Pat,

I want to especially Thank You for mentioning the craft demonstrations

that will be around town in Occoquan for the River Festival - July 27th.

These are local talented guilds and artisans/crafters/artists; some of who

will soon have studios at the Work House Arts Center in Lorton.

Visitors will be able to meet and greet demonstrators from:

Cabin Branch Quilt Guild, Chesapeake Region Lace Guild, Waterford Weavers

& Studio Fiber Arts, Northern Virginia Wood Carvers Guild, High Country Basketry

Guild. As well as talented local artists from Occoquan galleries who will demonstrate

mosaic glass design, plein air painting, basket weaving, bead & wire weaving,

sculpting, colored pencil, oil painting, and jewelry design.

We're also thrilled to have a book signing by a local nationally known quilter,

instructor and co-author of "Quilts of Virginia 1609 - 1899, The Birth of America

through the Eye of the Needle"

The streets of Historic Occoquan will be an exciting place to be with side walk

or in-shop sales, 3 music groups, roving historical characters, horse and

carriage rides.  Should be a FUN event.

Dale-it was a great day.  I spent it in Belmont Bay helping Cindy Jones and the team assembled on that location.  The rain made for an interesting hour but otherwise it was a good day.
