I always enjoy participating in the monthly #ActiveRainChallenge. I am grateful that Debe Maxwell, CRS and Carol Williams are hosting this month's challenge.
I remember participating in the very first AR Zoom meeting, and it was nice. I looked forward to the weekly event, but then my path in life shifted in a direction that was more important for me, and I have no longer been able to attend on a weekly basis because of the time both things are happening. I always got a lot out of the meetings, and I am sure those who attend these days continue to get a lot from them. I can see where the round tables would be enjoyable and allow everyone to participate.
The topic that I would propose for a round table discussion would be:
The ActiveRain Features (and Rules) Almost Nobody Talks About—What Should Be More Transparent?
- How posts actually get featured / the “Feature Fairie” process - What criteria are used? How much is algorithmic vs. human review? Is there any way for members to understand or influence it more clearly?
- Points system edge cases and long-term incentives - Nuances around what earns points, how Rainmaker status becomes free at 500k points, or lesser-known ways activity is weighted.
- Visibility differences (Rainer vs. Rainmaker, Members Only posts, Google indexing) - Practical implications that many members only discover late.
- Group dynamics and discovery - How groups are promoted, moderated, or surfaced; why some thrive, and others stay quiet.
- Moderation, content guidelines, and enforcement - Consistency, appeals, or how decisions about borderline posts are made.
- Data, analytics, or member tools that exist but aren’t widely publicized - Profile insights, contact form behavior, or any behind-the-scenes reporting that could help agents market themselves better.
- Platform roadmap or decision-making process - How member feedback is gathered and prioritized (or whether it feels opaque).
We seem to be getting a lot of newbies in the Rain, yet none of them get very active, so it makes me wonder why they even bother signing up, or maybe after prowling around for a bit in the Rain, they don't find anything beneficial.
