JF Kennedy Class of 1966 Reunion Success!

On the afternoon of August 16, 2026, 33 Alumni from the class of 1966 gathered at the Sunset Grill in Watertown CT for a reunion. Sixty years had passed since we received our diplomas, representing the first graduating class of the new J F Kennedy High School in Waterbury CT.

From the pages of our yearbook, I snapped what they looked like, as that would be the memory many were seeking as they walked through the doors.

In 1966, we were over 300 classmates. Time can be cruel and when it came time to try to gather, I stepped up just because someone had to do it since we no longer knew where our surviving class officers were.

Those living in the state, were at an advantage as the drive was relatively short, no longer than 60 miles.

We had an alumna come up from the Delray Beach area of Florida. She visited with local family members as well as her classmates of 60 years ago.

There was no set time limit to the afternoon and as luck would have it, we enjoyed the comforts of the main dining area until almost 5 PM.

Thirty-three 33 people meeting as family with 4 spouses joining in and appreciating the camaraderie of the day.

As all were leaving, the consensus was we could not wait another 10 years to gather again. I made the list of names I used for this assembly available for the group as there is no guarantee that the same group that organized this gathering would be able to do it a few short years down the road.

Afterall, when one looks at the photos from our 50th, time has taken many of us, and even on this day of smiles, in another part of the state was the celebration of life for one of our clasmates.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 what a wonderful event, Ed! I'm quite envious as my 60th reunion never did happen. 😔Now I'm thinking I should have gone to yours and lived vicariously! And boy oh boy do I ever remember those hairstyles... I do believe I sported some of them myself back then!

Nina Hollander, Broker   Nina, it was stressful getting it assembled as the person that we offering me the most assistance aside from my wife had her celebration of life that same afternoon.

Some of their spouses were also from the area and they were appreciative of the gathering as their classes did nothing, Also, some of the later classes of the school inquired to coming but then none showed up. I have not seen any other reunions posted either.

Ed  glad you were able to pull this many classmates together after all these years.  Unfortunately the odds are that some in that picture will not be around for the next reunion.

George Souto None of us knows what our contract reads, and that may well be the case. I am thinking that with the success this one enjoyed, if it happens again, we may have some more that were hesitant this year,

Wow- Ed- I graduated a year later but looking at the photos and hairstyles, that could have been my yearbook. Larry's 60th reunion is in October and it will be a lot like yours. Instead of a weekend of the local high school football game, a cookout and then dinner, it will be just the dinner.

I'm glad you organized your reunion.

Kathy Streib  there were many smiles, and with this group, there were very few that showed strains with their walking and definitely not the eating and smiuling.

Cousin Ed, I have been waiting to read this—and it was worth the wait!!! What a wonderful accomplishment to bring together 33 members of your graduating class 60 years later. You didn’t simply organize a reunion; you gave everyone an afternoon to reconnect with people who share a part of their history that no one else quite can. I love, love, love that!

My own 50th reunion is coming up this month, so your story is especially meaningful—and it makes me even more excited for ours! The joy in these photos is unmistakable, but your reminder that time can be cruel is one we all face with age. I'm okay with that!

Thank you for sharing this beautiful day and for stepping up when “someone had to do it.” You know I can hear you saying that!! You created a memory your classmates will surely treasure--forever.

Debe Maxwell, CRS   I had 3 people that responded they would come but failed to show up. I reached out to all and only connected with one who was very disappointed in himself, especially as he was one of the first to reach out to ask if I knew of anything planned.

Ironically, he searched my name online and came across my profile on ActiveRain and that is how this all started.

Enjoy your reunion and hopefully, those smiles will be there for long after the event closes.

This definitely sounds like a success, and it is a great-looking bunch!  I like the name of that High School.

Brian England   The name was easy, as the school was obviously named after JF Kennedy and only appropriately as he visited Waterbury during his campaign in 1962, and also came back after being elected.

Hi Ed:

What a fun read this was. I enjoyed all that you had to say and the wonderful photos. That's a pretty good sized gathering after 60 years! Sounds like you had a terrific time.

Ed, these reunions do require someone or a small committee to pull them together, or else it is just talk.  Good you were able to do it, even though it was a lot of effort.  Nice it happened.  And yes, 10 years is too long.
