When people are thinking about buying a home, they naturally focus on bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, schools, taxes, and price.
But there's another part of homeownership that doesn't always show up on a listing sheet: what is there to do once you live there?
That's one reason I love highlighting local events in Madison County, Kentucky.
This weekend, September 5–6, 2026, residents in Berea and Richmond have several opportunities to get out, support local organizations, and enjoy the community.
Saturday in Berea
The weekend gets started with Berea Women's Volleyball taking on Maryville College at 10:30 AM at Berea College.
Then at 1 PM, Berea Women's Volleyball takes on Spalding University.
Saturday evening brings something completely different. Stepping Out For Art 2026: BAC's 40th Year Celebration begins at 5 PM, giving the community an opportunity to celebrate Berea's strong arts tradition.
And if you're looking for a little more sports action, Berea Women's Soccer takes on Asbury University at 7 PM.
That's a pretty full Saturday without ever leaving Berea.
Saturday in Richmond
Richmond also has something happening Saturday with the Anthony Reams Memorial Race at 4 PM.
Community races aren't just about competition. They're opportunities for people to get outside, meet others, cheer on participants, and support the organizations and causes connected to the event.
Sunday in Richmond
Sunday brings a more relaxed option.
Nic Cassetta LIVE at Chenault Vineyards takes place from 4–6 PM at Chenault Vineyards.
Live music, a local venue, and a Sunday afternoon in Madison County? Sounds like a pretty good way to wrap up the weekend to me.
Why Do Local Events Matter to Homebuyers?
As a Realtor, I think it's important to look beyond the house.
When you're considering buying a home in Berea, Richmond, or somewhere else in Madison County, you should also ask:
What does everyday life look like here?
Can you find activities you enjoy? Are there community traditions? Are there local businesses and organizations worth supporting? Can you easily find ways to meet people?
Those things contribute to the quality of life that makes a community feel like home.
And local events play a big role.
They bring residents together, create opportunities for local businesses, and give people reasons to explore the communities around them.
That's one of the things that makes Madison County such an interesting place to call home.
