Things Only a REALTOR® Notices: A Toilet

By

I was out showing homes the other day to a couple from New York when Kindal, a REALTOR® on my team, discovered something that left both of us at a loss for words. It was a toilet, but definitely not one either of us had seen before.

Black with gold trim and marble looking accents, it matched the bathroom floor and was certainly making a statement. The buyers walked in, took one look and their response was immediate: “Oh, no way!”

After 26 years in real estate, I’ve walked through thousands of homes and seen plenty of interesting decorating choices. That’s actually part of what makes showing homes fun. Every house is different, and occasionally you find something you just have to stop and look at.

This was one of those times.  So what do you think? Keep it or would this toilet be the first thing to go?

Dick Betts - Now that's a throne!

Unbelievable to the working class. Probably typical for the elite.

Good morning Dick. Gone in the first 60 seconds of ownership. Although, what I think is not important it's what the potential buyer thinks. Don't let you opinion spoil a potential sale. Enjoy your day.

Good morning, Dick... while this is so not my style... if this toilet was in a powder room and the rest of the room fit in terms of decor, I might keep it. It would be a great conversation piece. But I'd certainly remove prior to selling the home. If this toilet was in another bathroom... gone in a NY minute.

Dick, that is certainly an unforgettable design choice! You definitely see some truly unique interior decisions after decades in the business, and a black-and-gold marbleized statement piece like that is guaranteed to stop buyers in their tracks. Definitely a candidate for quick replacement before listing!

Dick Betts I will reframe from saying what is going through my mind right now, so I will leave it at "interesting".

Expert guidance. Exceptional results.

Thanks for sharing this fun story with us, Dick Betts, as that bathroom is sure a rare find! It's great to see the funny side of showing homes, and I'm very thankful for your post. I know that dark throne would be the first thing to go for me!
