Sea Shore Shenanigans ~ Sea Beans

I've found a new hobby here at the beach. I've discovered the excitement of finding Sea Beans! There’s something wonderfully exciting about walking the beach with your eyes turned toward the sand, hoping to spot a little treasure washed in by the tide. Sea beans are one of those treasures.

These little pods are carried across the ocean by currents and are eventually deposited along the beach. These sea beans can travel incredible distances before making their way into your path. Each one is unique—some smooth and polished, some oddly shaped, and others almost perfectly formed. You never quite know what you’ll find.

Finding a sea bean feels a little like finding a secret. You might walk past dozens of shells and bits of driftwood before a small, dark shape catches your eye. You bend down, brush away the sand, and there it is. A sea bean! Suddenly, the beach walk becomes a treasure hunt.

For many beachcombers, finding these little gems becomes wonderfully addictive. You start learning what to look for, where the tide leaves them, and which stretches of beach might hold the best discoveries. Every walk becomes an opportunity to find something that has traveled farther than you can imagine.

Perhaps that's what makes sea beans so special. They're more than pretty little objects washed ashore. They're tiny reminders of the vastness of the ocean, the power of currents, and the incredible journeys happening just beyond the horizon.

I've started my collection of these prized gifts from the sea. Each time I find one, I become giddy! (It doesn't take much)! Stay tuned for more sea beans to come!

Well done on your new search. I have never heard of sea beans, and now wonder how many lost opportunities I had

They are really interesting. They are hard to find, so when you do, it is a celebration.

Hi Paula- I love looking for treasures like these on the beach.  When we were in Delray Beach, I collected miniature seashells!!   Enjoy your beach days!!!

Hey Nina. We've found two so far this weekend. The trick is getting out there early before others find them.

Thank you very much, Paula, for sharing this experience.

I still have a collection of shells from when we lived on the oceanfront many years ago.

Those sea beans look really cool, but they tricked me because from the photo, I thought they were chocolate candy of some sort, haha.

That's funny, Brian. I think other people think they are something else, so they never pick them up.

Hi Paula,
I have never heard of a sea bean, although I may have seen them on many of our beach trips and didn't know it. I had to look up what they are.

I love the fact that they float for thousands of miles before landing here.
