Auburn Football Traditions: Don’t Overlook the Auburn Band
Auburn football traditions are a huge part of what makes living in Auburn, Alabama, different — and one of the most powerful parts of game day sometimes doesn’t get nearly enough attention: the Auburn University Marching Band.
Everybody talks about Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Everybody knows “War Eagle.”
People come to see the eagle fly, watch the football game, experience Tiger Walk and celebrate an Auburn win.
But if you’re moving to Auburn, Alabama, or relocating to Auburn University, don’t overlook the band.
The Auburn University Marching Band helps create the sound and emotion of Auburn game day.
And after Auburn opened the 2026 season with a dramatic 17–16 victory over Baylor on Saturday, September 5, there’s already plenty of excitement surrounding another Auburn football season.
Why the Band Is One of My Favorite Auburn Football Traditions
Football gets most of the attention.
But Auburn game day is much bigger than four quarters of football.
It’s the crowd.
It’s the traditions.
It’s the sounds you immediately recognize.
And the Auburn University Marching Band is woven throughout that experience.
The band performs during Auburn football game days and helps bring many of the traditions Auburn fans recognize to life.
For someone experiencing an Auburn home game for the first time, it can be surprising how much the music contributes to the atmosphere.
You don’t just watch an Auburn football game.
You hear Auburn, too.
The Auburn University Marching Band Sets the Stage
Long before the final score, the Auburn atmosphere is already building.
The Auburn University Marching Band is an important part of that buildup.
For many fans, the pregame experience is something they don’t want to miss.
You have thousands of people dressed in orange and blue.
The stadium is filling.
Anticipation is building.
Then you hear familiar Auburn music.
If you’re relocating to Auburn and attending your first game at Jordan-Hare Stadium (https://auburntigers.com/jordan-hare-stadium), my advice is simple:
Don’t show up at the last minute.
Give yourself time to experience what happens before kickoff.
Because that’s part of Auburn football, too.
Auburn Football Traditions Create the Atmosphere
Think about everything surrounding an Auburn home football game.
- Tiger Walk
- Tailgating
- Orange and blue everywhere
- The eagle flight
- “War Eagle”
- The Auburn University Marching Band
- Pregame
- The fight song
- Halftime
- Jordan-Hare Stadium
- Toomer’s Corner after a big Auburn win
Put all of those things together and you begin to understand why an Auburn football Saturday feels different from an ordinary Saturday.
The football game is the centerpiece.
But the traditions create the atmosphere.
And Auburn Started 2026 With a Win
Auburn football gave fans something to celebrate right out of the gate this season.
The Tigers defeated Baylor 17–16 on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the Aflac Kickoff Game in Atlanta.
It came down to the final seconds.
Baylor scored a touchdown to pull within one point and attempted a two-point conversion for the win.
Auburn stopped it.
Final: Auburn 17, Baylor 16.
Now Auburn comes home.
That means the Auburn University Marching Band, Jordan-Hare Stadium and all those familiar home-game traditions are about to become part of another football season on the Plains.
