Auburn Football Game Day: Should You Wear Orange or Navy?
Auburn football game day brings plenty of decisions — where to park, when to arrive, where to eat and, of course, what color Auburn gear to wear.
Orange or navy?
The easy answer is that both are Auburn colors. But if you’re heading to Jordan-Hare Stadium, there’s another thing you need to know: check the official color theme for that particular game before choosing your outfit.
Some Auburn home games are designated Wear Orange. Others may be Wear Navy, Wear White, a stripe-out or Fan Choice.
If you’re relocating to Auburn University or you’re new to Auburn football, consider this your introduction to one of the fun little details of game day on the Plains.
Auburn Football Game Day Starts With Orange and Blue
Auburn’s official colors are burnt orange and navy blue.
You’ll see them everywhere during football season.
They’re flying on flags outside homes.
They’re on Auburn University signs and merchandise.
They’re covering tailgates.
They’re walking down the sidewalks toward Jordan-Hare Stadium.
And they’re all over Downtown Auburn.
During football season, Auburn-themed displays seem to become part of the downtown scenery. Clothing stores and other businesses often feature orange-and-blue merchandise and Auburn-inspired window displays.
Restaurants get into the game-day atmosphere, too.
Walk around Downtown Auburn near Toomer’s Corner on a football weekend and you don’t have to wonder which college town you’re in.
Auburn University is woven into the visual identity of downtown.
That’s something people relocating here don’t always understand until they experience their first football season.

So Should You Wear Orange or Navy to an Auburn Game?
Here’s my advice:
First, check the official Auburn football color guide.
Don’t automatically assume orange.
Don’t automatically assume navy.
Auburn Athletics designates different colors and themes for different home games.
For the 2026 Auburn football season, the currently published home-game color guide includes:
| Home Game | What Auburn Fans Should Wear |
|---|---|
| Southern Miss – Sept. 12 | Wear White |
| Florida – Sept. 19 | Power Stripe Out |
| Vanderbilt – Sept. 26 | Fan Choice |
| LSU – Oct. 24 | Wear Orange |
| Arkansas – Nov. 7 | Wear Navy |
| Samford – Nov. 21 | Fan Choice |
And some are just wonderfully Auburn.
That’s part of what makes Downtown Auburn so interesting during football season. The university isn’t isolated from the city. Auburn University, Downtown Auburn and the surrounding community are closely connected.
You can go from seeing Samford Hall and other recognizable Auburn University buildings to walking past restaurants and Auburn-decorated storefronts within minutes.
For someone considering moving to Auburn, those everyday scenes can tell you something that a list of housing statistics can’t:
This really is a university town.
Auburn Is Coming Into Its Home Opener With a Win
The Tigers started the 2026 season with something Auburn fans certainly wanted to see: a win.
Auburn defeated Baylor 17–16 in Atlanta on September 5.
Now the Tigers return to Jordan-Hare Stadium for the first home game of the season.
And here’s where our color discussion becomes important:
For the September 12 home opener against Southern Miss, the official color is WHITE — not orange or navy.
That’s exactly why checking the color guide matters.
More Than Orange or Navy: It’s the Auburn Experience
The clothing is fun.
But it’s really just one little piece of something much larger.
Auburn football game day can includ:
- Auburn-themed storefronts
- Downtown restaurants
- Toomer’s Corner
- Tailgating
- Tiger Walk
- The Auburn University Marching Band
- The eagle flight
- Jordan-Hare Stadium
- “War Eagle”
- Orange and blue everywhere
And after a big Auburn victory, Downtown Auburn and Toomer’s Corner can become part of the celebration.
That’s why football content actually matters when we’re talking about living in Auburn, Alabama.
It shows you what life here can feel like.
