Being an avid traveler, there are times I have no idea which direction I am going. BUT, Google maps is wonderful.
It is also nice when you have landmarks or other items to help you with the direction. LIKE - the beautiful Rocky Mountains! In Denver, as long as you can SEE the mountains, you know that is WEST.
Here in Portugal, the sea is to the South, so I haven't lost my sense of direction here either.
But, cannot say that for other cities, states, or countries!

Joan, I completely understand this. I do much better when I have a mountain ridge, lake, highway, or some other landmark to orient myself. GPS is wonderful, but I still like knowing where I am in relation to something familiar. I imagine having the Rocky Mountains to the west or the sea to the south makes it much easier to get your bearings.

Joan, I have very seldom had an issue with directions and do have a 6th sense when it comes to locating my direction.

I have been in places (like Kansas City) that when I look in any direction everything looks the same. How do they get anywhere.

Hi Joan- I have a good sense of direction, however, there have been times when I was totally turned around.
Joan, It's always good to have a large body of water to help with where I am. I remember using a compass years ago.....
