Montgomery County Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

Montgomery County Executive Elrich Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15-Oct. 15

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will participate in several special events from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as the County observes “National Hispanic Heritage Month.” The events will honor Hispanic and Latine immigrants who are making significant contributions to their communities.

Hispanic and Latine residents make up more than one-fifth of Montgomery County’s population. According to the U.S. Census Bureaus’ 2024 American Community Survey, 21.7% of County residents identify as Hispanic or Latine, reflecting communities with roots throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Events celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month will include:

  • Tuesday, Sept.15—Thursday, Oct. 15: A social media campaign recognizing Hispanic and Latine employees.
  • Saturday, Sept. 19: Wheaton Hispanic Heritage Month Unity Festival from noon to 4 p.m., at Marian Fryer Town Plaza, 2425 Reedie Drive in Wheaton. For details, visit the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration page on the Wheaton website.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 22: The County Executive’s Latin American Advisory Group hosts an event recognizing community leaders.
  • Friday, Sept. 25: County Executive Elrich will visit Latine-owned businesses in East County to highlight the Latine small business community.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 29: County Executive Elrich will be the featured guest on ‘Montogomery al Día’, the County’s Spanish-language radio show. The show airs from 2 to 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday on Radio America 900. To listen live, visit radioamerica.com or the County’s Spanish Facebook page, Montgomery County en Español.
  • Thursday, Oct. 1: The Montgomery County and Morazán Sister Cities Committee will host its 15th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Gala from 6 to 10 p.m. at Glenview Mansion, located at 603 Edmonston Dr. in Rockville. Looks like a well planned month of events Roy and being from a family whose parents were immigrants, I'm glad to see your county " honors Hispanic and Latine immigrants who are making significant contributions to their communities."

Have a blessed week!

Sincerely,

Grace
