September in New England: The Season Everyone Starts Craving a Move

There’s something magical, and a little chaotic, about September in New England.

One minute you’re enjoying a warm afternoon, and the next you’re reaching for a sweater and wondering if your house is ready for another winter. This is exactly why September becomes one of the most entertaining months in real estate.

Buyers suddenly remember that snow is coming. Sellers realize their curb appeal looks incredible with fall colors. And homeowners start questioning whether they really want to rake leaves for another year. It’s the season of “maybe we should look at houses… just in case.”

If you’ve been waiting for a sign, New England’s weather mood swings are giving you one.

Fall is short, winter is long, and the market is wide awake.

Already loving the cooler day today, my sweaters are ready and waiting, I so prefer to get warm to trying to stay cool, and it's so much prettier.

Kelly, September does make New England homeowners evaluate their homes differently. Fall color strengthens curb appeal while the first cool evenings bring heating, maintenance, leaves, and winter routines back into focus. That seasonal change can turn a casual thought about moving into a much more practical housing conversation.

The fall season in New England this year is projected to be especially colorful with all the rain we had this summer.

It won't get cold here, but is should start cooling down a bit and be very comfortable home shopping weather, haha.

That shift in the weather really does trigger a sudden reality check for homeowners, Kelly McGovern. Beautiful fall foliage brings incredible curb appeal, but that crisp September air also serves as a subtle reminder of the winter maintenance, leaf raking, and heating prep ahead. It is such a strategic window to get active buyers into place before the season turns! Hope you have a wonderful and productive week ahead!

Good afternoon Kelly,

Fall is the time of year I miss from growing up in upstate NY. I loved the colors, the smell and jumping in the leaves!
