There's been a lot of talk lately about whether AI should move forward or not, and whether it's a safe tool to use. As for me, I remain hesitant to put any confidential or personal information in any AI tool. For example, I find it very useful to come up with a good recipe based on food I have on hand and food I do not want in my recipe. Nothing personal there. But I won't use it to provide an inventory of everything in my home. Even though using AI would be a very quick way to get an inventory list! It's just not something I have any interest in doing.
I just found another safe thing to use AI for. At some point I think we'll be required to pay for this type of use but at the moment, you can still do this for free.
My family woodworking business is called Rough Cut Products LLC. When we first started it, we wanted to come up with a logo that showed the manual aspect of what we do. At that time, our business was making only wooden benches and tables, often with live edges. So we wanted something that showed we weren't a big factory with tons of machines. We opted for a logo that showed an old hand saw, and a cut piece of wood. We paid a small fee to a company to come up with something, and here's what we wound up with:

There's nothing wrong with this one, and it's on our marketing materials including our bags, banner, website and more.
But the other day I got to thinking that it was kind of boring. What if we were to make it a 3D logo?
So I logged onto AI, in this case i used Gemini. And I explained I wanted the logo in 3D. The first one was too dark, so I asked for a lighter background. And then I asked if they could make it round so it's more easily used on social media and the like. And here's what the result, after about 2 minutes of work, looks like:

I might wind up doing a little more tweaking, but this is a lot better than the original one above.
So if you're looking for a way to make your logos pop a bit more, or if you're considering what uses of AI might be "safe," here's one idea for you! More may be coming.
