DON'T JUST WRITE IT. MAKE SURE YOU CAN FIND IT AGAIN.
20 Years of ActiveRain Lessons...All in One Place
Like others, I've been writing on ActiveRain for 20 years.
Thousands of posts. Thousands of comments. Thousands of real estate stories, questions, answers, photographs, transactions, and lessons learned along the way. And here's something I've learned: Writing a great blog isn't very helpful if you can't find it again.
That's why one of my ActiveRain habits is TAGGING.
When I write a post, I use tag words that will help me find it again. I often use words from the title or subject, and I add 'HomeRome' as one of my consistent tags. Why? Because I've created an enormous real estate library without really setting out to create one.
If I've talked about home inspections, pricing, unusual houses, buyers, sellers, negotiations, kindness impaired, or almost anything else in real estate, chances are I've written about it before.

After two decades and thousands of posts, how many completely new subjects can there be? The subject may not be new. But the story is.
The market may have changed. The technology may have changed. My experience has certainly grown. And sometimes an old post gives me the idea for a much better new one. My Best ActiveRain Tip: Make Your Old Blogs Findable. The tip isn't simply “use tags.” Use a consistent personal tag as your filing system.
