You Get Some Zinnias! You Get Some Zinnias! You Get Some Zinnias!

This was my first year planting zinnias!

They are beautiful flowers!  They seem to just keep growing and growing.  The blooms are vibrant, and the variety of color and size was surprising to me.  Although these flowers are beautiful to the eye, they offer little to no scent.

I did notice that as they grew, the stalk became very thick, so much so that the stalks would droop from being so heavy.  They attracted an amazing number of bees and hummingbirds, which was a big bonus for me!

I've cut so many zinnias that I'm running out of people to give them to.  I feel like Oprah on her show when she was giving away cars!

My tomatoes certainly didn't grow much this year, but these zinnias are a hit, I had an abundance of cucumbers, and I've got about 8 (so far) butternut squash growing now. I'll have to find some thankful takers for those when they're ready to be cut off the vine!

I will definitely keep planting flowers, as I love having blooms to cut from my own garden.

Kelly McGovern I don't think I have ever seen zinnias before, but from the photo above they are beautiful flowers.

Clearly, your zinnias stole the show this year, Kelly; beautiful blooms, happy bees and hummingbirds, and enough flowers to make the whole neighborhood smile!

Kelly, any flower that has little or no scent will stay around longer so that is a plus for the colors. A lot of gardens in the northeast had issue with the rains.

I don't have much experience with zinnias, but they definitely look to be beautiful flowers!

Hello Kelly, I just cut back my 4 o'clocks flowers yesterday and still need to cut back some more flowers in the next week.

Hi Kelly McGovern - I really like your Zinnias! I planted a few dozen about 2-3 weeks ago and I'm enjoying them immensely!

Zinnias are also culinary treats! But you have to have the edible type. There is a recipe called Zinnia Flower Jelly Recipe and another for a Zinnia Flower Salad: toss greens with olive oil, lemon juice, honey, garnish with edible fresh Zinnia petals.
