The James E. McGuffey Nature Center is located in the Coweta County Fairgrounds complex, south of Newnan. The Nature Center offers both educational and recreation opportunities for visitors.
There are several instructional areas. The main building offers a large coved outdoor classroom, and an outside fire pit learning area. There are also mini amphitheatres along the trails in the wooded areas where instructors can offer information about local ecosystems.
Visitors may also enjoy hiking any one or all the numerous trails that travel through the diverse forest, bog and lake locations. There is even a paved nature trail for those with disabilities.
There is also a demonstration vegetable garden, and numerous floral planting that enhance the overall look of the site.
There is ample free parking, modern restroom facilities, and picnic tables are available. The Nature Center is generally uncrowded, and is a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Newnan.
To get there, take U.S. 29 (LaGrange Street) South, and take a Right turn on Pine Street. Cross the railroad track and take the first left into the Coweta County Fairgrounds, then turn Right into the Nature Center.
The James E. McGuffey Nature Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. Saturday from 8:30 A.M. until 30 minutes prior to sunset. Sunday from 1:P0 A.M. until 30 minutes prior to sunset. Closed Mondays.
