My Claws are Green and my Balls are Blue

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Properties Seattle

I'm starting to get the photos ready for listing my property right after I get back from Inman Blogger's Connect in San Francisco.

I know you all know I'm a bit odd and eclectic.  It's a big decision not to neutralize everything in my house, but since I've painted the furniture to match the house...well I'm sure it's a stager's nightmare, but it is what it is.

I have always loved ball and claw furniture and have had many traditional pieces in my younger years.  Back in Philadelphia everyone knew what Queen Anne vs. Chippendale and Ball and Claw were.  But on the West Coast no one noticed my balls and claws...well now they do.  The claw looks like the Grinch and the ball looks like the Grinch has got the world in his grasp.

Here are a few of the photos I'm preparing for the mls below.  Of course the one above is just for you :)

When I first moved in no one seemed to notice the high cathedral ceiling, so I painted it turquoise.  When someone doesn't notice something that I want them to notice, I find a way to call it to their attention.  Luckily Kim's a good sport and lets me do whatever I want.  My ex-husband of 20 years would NEVER have let me do this.  I'll have to send him a link to this post.

I'm using this post to test some of my photos.  The rugs won't be cleaned until I'm off at Inman, so the stain behind that sofa will be gone before it goes on market.  I'm just testing the angle of the photos, etc...

This is the view of Lake Washington from my bedroom.  I am going to miss waking up to that every morning.  The tall buildings across the Lake are the Seattle City Skyline.  From my kitchen window I can see the Space Needle out in the distance.

Below is the shot from the back of the house.  I decided to retake the front shot earlier in the day as the sun had moved to the back by the time I took these photos today.  And I have to move the recylce bins :)

It's a "Street to Alley" lot so the garage is in the rear.

My home is in Kirkland WA and I keep wavering between listing it at $949,950 and $975,000.  Today Zillow says it is valued at $986,400 :)  One day it was $1,080,000, but when I woke up I lost $160,000.  It's heading back up so I better hurry up and list it before Zillow has another bad day.

David,

I didn't know if the Make me Move photos would integrate later with the For Sale ones.  Doesn't matter, I'm planning to put it for sale on Zillow before I go to Inman and in the mls after I get back.   I have been using Zillow lately to line up and check out the photos online (instead of Flikr) before I choose which ones to enter in the mls.  I think I wrote a post about that once.

It took me about 10 seconds to come up with the Title and table shot.  Kim almost fell off his chair.  You know me...in my brain out my fingers and on to blog :)

Ardell, I love the colors and what a view of Lake Washington. I have no idea of market values in Kirkland but the house itself has a great feel and I know someone will fall in love with it and the views.

Lori,

I'm not headed out of town, though I would like to buy a smaller place in a sunny location in preparation for retirement, I still plan to live and work in Seattle Area for 5-7 years or more.  I likely will stay on The Eastside in Kirkland or Redmond.  Possibly Bellevue, but not likely.  I already lived in Bellevue.

Top choices are in the Juanita area of Kirkland and near Redmond Town Center or Downtown Redmond.  I like to mix up my living experiences.  It makes me a better real estate agent.  Since coming to Seattle in 2004 I've lived near Green Lake in Seattle, in Bridle Trails in Bellevue and East of Market near Downtown Kirkland.  Living in an area gives the highest experience with regard to real estate advices.  Mixing it up broadens your knowledge base.

Ardell -- Agreed. . .I would love to visit the Seattle area, I am enamored by the architecture and the scenery.  Happy house hunting - I love the process for looking for somewhere new.

In the daytime the views are lake and mountains, including Mt. Rainer.  But the Seattly skyline and distance views are better at night when it's lit up.  I don't think I can take a night shot, though the fireworks came out well (see 4th of July post).  Those shots were taken from inside the bedroom.

My favorite view of Seattle across Lake Washington is on the main level when you walk in the front door at night.  The city is framed in one of the Living Room windows.

The framing of views by the windows is what I find incredible and must have taken great planning in the expansion of the home.  Mt. Rainier is perfectly centered in one of the windows when you walk into the master suite, the Lake is spread across three adjoining windows and the City Skyline is framed in the second Living Room Window and the Kitchen window.  It is too awesome to be pure coincidence.

Lori,

The market has weakened here, so best not to plan where you are going until you are in escrow and past home inspection these days.  There are many more sellers than buyers these days.

How fun!  My house is for sale too!  Love the legs and claws!  Hmmm I'm not really good with having someone tell me what I can and cannot do, just so I can decorate my houses MY way, I've been unmarried for the last 17 years! lol  Ps what kind of camera do you have?

http://www.raincityguide.com/2007/07/16/panasonic-lumix-fx07-the-perfect-camera-for-real-estate/

It's a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX07.  My friend Galen over at RCG called it the best camera for real estate (see link above)  It has a little lever that let's you zoom in or go a bit wide, but not so wide that everything looks distroted.  It's tiny.  Fits in my purse.  About four inches long and two inches high.  I LOVE it.

Thanks Ben!  I've been by your house a couple of times lately and watching that grey one up the street that isn't selling, so have been thinking of you.

I'm putting mine on market after I get back from speaking at Inman Connect.  Not this weekend, but next weekend should be Open House time.

It's a crap shoot...wish me luck!  ...and hope to see you soon.

Good grief, Ardell...best of luck selling the house but even if it doesn't move, you still win.  What a great home.
