On November 3, 2006, the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) opened its doors to the public, forever changing the arts scene in South Orange.

SOPAC originally evolved from Bill Calabrese's idea to bring a movie theater to town.  After many discussions and deep exploration, Calabrese championed a bigger dream instead- to open a full performing arts center!  SOPC now presents elite artists in an intimate theater, features cinema and event space, and has created jobs, offered arts education, and encouraged new partnerships.  SOPAC has become a community gathering point, a regional point of arts pride, and an anchor of the South Orange business community.

In recognition of its significant impact on the community, the Township of South Orange Village chose SOPAC as its honored Villager of the Month in July, 2007.  This was the first time an organization was awarded this honor.  The Community Relations Committee determined that SOPAC played an important role in bringing the people of South Orange together and creating new opportunities for the community.
