Driving to work from Chatham County is not a chore, it is an adventure! I don't know of too many places where driving to work includes driving down roads with names like "Chicken Bridge" or "Silk Hope Gum Springs Road." Driving to work here means watching for deer on the side of the road or watching for turtles, geese, ducks, squirrels, and all kinds of critters crossing the road. It means taking a peek at the Haw River every day. And, it means that even when I am in a hurry, my stress level stays managable because I can enjoy what I see in my surroundings while I travel.
I used to commute to Los Angeles every day. Freeways jammed with cars, miles of concrete and roofs of houses is all I could see. It made me tired just to be there, even if I wasn't in a hurry. I have no desire to go back to that environment and hope I never have to.
