You found my blog online. And now I have the opportunity to pay YOU for leads?

THE Daytona Beach Real Estate & Community Event Blog. By Lisa C. Hill, "THE SMART CHOICE!"

golfWell, the title pretty much says it all. Earlier this week, I posted to my blog, information about buying real estate in golf communities in Daytona Beach. I plan to post several more, about buying or selling real estate in golf communities in Port Orange, Ponce Inlet, and possibly New Smyrna Beach too. But that's all beside the point for this post.

The very next day after I posted the blog about the Daytona Beach golf comunities, I got a call from a lady who works with a company that targets real estate buyers who are specifically looking to buy real estate in golf communities. She was offering me the opportunity to register my blog or web site with their company, so I could receive the real estate leads for golf communities in Daytona Beach.

OK. So let me get this straight. The fact that this woman found my post about buying real estate in Daytona Beach golf communities means she was able to find that post when she did an internet search. Which also means that buyers will be able to find my post in an internet search (without her help) BUT, I can have the incredible opportunity to pay this company to add my blog information to their database, which will increase THEIR Search Engine Optimization (SEO), at which point they can sell MY own leads that were generated by MY research and MY time spent on writing what was obviously an SEO rich post about buying real estate in Daytona Beach golf communities, BACK TO ME!unbelievable

Wow! What an incredible deal! I'd be stupid not to accept that offer, right?

So here's my thought. When the people who work for the companies that sell leads, or perhaps those who offer us the "opportunity" for them to help us with our SEO; make the calls to us, with these 'incredible offers', does it ever occur to them that if they were able to find us so easily, that our clientele can find us just as easily? And does the thought ever enter their minds that we might know that?

Here's my final statement. THANK YOU Active Rain, and all the bloggers here, who are so knowledgeable about SEO, and are so willing to share that knowledge with the rest of us! And especially, thank you for helping us to save money and not have to pay someone to do what we can do ourselves!

(And thank you mom and dad, for teaching me not to gullible.) Thank you for teaching me to connect the dots and realize that to fall for what was attempting to be sold to me, would mean I was paying for the leads that I had already generated myself!)

If you're new to Active Rain, you'll find that if you have questions about blogging, web sites, the internet, real estate law, mortgages, staging, creating real estate videos, taking better listing pictures, and anything else you can possibly think of, the answers are right here! You can easily search for blogs or bloggers with the information you need. So before you unnecessarily pay your hard-earned money on leads or SEO, search Active Rain for the answers you need. And keep your money, or better yet, invest it back into your business in a way that will REALLY work in the best interests of you and your clients!

HAPPY BLOGGING!

Lisa,

This is one of the biggest scams out there, there are even those that sell FSBO leads.  Did a test drive for a week and they were selling information that they got out of the newspaper.

Another good post ma'am.

Lisa I wish you would've wrote this one about a year and a half ago before I became a victim to the Lead Generation companies- Bastards. Big rookie mistake. But now I am working on getting this SEO thing down. I still need help with that. Great post.

Funny comments everybody. And as most of us have fallen victim to these, what I consider to be scams, at one time or another, if I can save just one person from learning this lesson the hard way, then my job is done! I don't like it when people take advantage of others.

As far as I'm concerned, we should all write at least one post per year, along these lines! AND we should share our knowledge so that other agents are able to find the answers they need for free!

you can't blame them for trying?  Or you can?  We do.  They must get a certain % of people who fall for it or they would not still keep trying ...

They are clogging up the switchboards (OK there aren't switchboards) and our email ...

You too can sign up for e_____.com  the latest, greatest thing in real estate lead generation, no that scam was exposed... NEXT
