Do you ever wonder whether or not a working relationship with your spouse is a good idea? The same qualities that first attracted you to your spouse may be the same qualities you need to improve your business.  How would you vote?  What are the pros and cons to working with your spouse?

I'm thinking should I really answer this.  I do work with my spouse and if we did not have separate offices (I know many who share the space together) we'd be filing the divorce papers.  How others manage I don't know but a good solid wall works for me.

Michele - Are you considering working with your spouse?  My husband Bob and I use to work together as loan officers.  He was better at closing, I was better at remembering all the program details.  He knew how to structure the harder loans, I knew how to run them through AU.  So yes, we used the strengths each of us had to make an awesome team.

Now he's the loan officer and I'm the realtor.  A little bit different scenario.  I've had to learn better closing skills and he's had to learn more of the details on those loan programs.  We are not working in the same office together any longer.  I felt that most of the time the two of us got along.  I will admit, if we happened to have an argument on the way to work, it was sometimes a long day at the offce.  We couldn't afford to carry it on there and still get work done.

I've heard some husbands and wives say they could never work together.  I believe it depends on who you are and what status your marriage is at.

I have worked with my wife for nearly 10 years and it works because she knows that I am the boss at work and I know she is the boss every other hour of the day.

Well I do work with my husband.  He is a Lender with Wachovia and I, of course, am with RE/MAX.  We are each "The Boss" at our own time.  It works out well with referrals and giving eachother necessary information.  I guess working as a team cannot be recommended for everyone.  As Cynthia said, it depends on the couple.

My wife and I have worked together for over 5 years. Having separate offices helps. We both have individual strengths and weaknesses and over the years we have figured out who should be in charge of each part of the business.

We met each other when Jim started working at the same restaurant I had recently started.  We became best friends, and worked several other jobs together before we started dating and eventually got married.  Real estate is far from our first go at working together, but it has worked out just like all of the others.  We each have our own strengths, and they seems to balance our business.  I really wouldn't want it any other way.
