My husband is a lender with Wachovia.  I have been with RE/MAX for 13+ years.  We work very well together.  I refer business to him and he returns the favor.  There are times, however, that Buyers do not want to use both of us even though he or she has no lender in mind.  Buyers are of course entitled to their own choices but...any tips?

That's a pretty nice set up to have! But I think that you hit it right on the money...buyers ARE entitled to their own choices. Is there any particular reason why they might not jump on the opportunity to be represented by your husband with Wachovia? Do they consider it to be a conflict of interest?

What you might consider doing is putting together a Home Buyer's Handbook and delivering it to the buyer at your Open Houses. This Handbook should have your Husbands contact info. and branding information. This way it's a delivery that's well presented and doesn't look greedy.

Best,

PS. Nice to meet you Michele. If you need help putting it together I'd be happy to forward you some samples. :)

I guess I'm curious as to how your clients react to you and your husband referring to one another?  I offer a couple choices to people when asked.  Would I prefer them to use my husband, sure but not just because the money all comes to our home, it's also because I know he'll do a good job and I'll be informed as to what's happening.

Buyers don't like feeling they are being painted into corners.  I have a great story from my former life in building products.  Due to inventory carrying costs I decided the mid-grade line was the best value and decided to stock & display only that. When another supplier offered fast turn arounds if I would add their lower & higher end products to my display room to my surprise I sold more of the mid-grade product!

Although I made the right choice originally, people are more comfortable doing business when you allow them to make their choice.   You may find both you and your husband's business will increase with this approach.  Please consider me should you decide to offer your clients other options.
