Colorado Springs and El Paso County merging governments?
As both entities continue to work on cost effective strategies for the future, this may be an idea worth 
considering. It's very similar to when two businesses merge; and as part of the merger they can reach cost savings by getting rid of duplicate positions and duplicate overhead.
There was a very informative article in the Gazette on Sunday, July 20, detailing some of the pros and cons of this possible marriage of governments. It's not formally under discussion at this time; but it has been proposed by some citizen groups. There are already some cities in Colorado that have a combined city and county government; including Denver and Broomfield. Also, it was under consideration in Aurora, but a panel recommended against it.
There is a saying that the only thing for certain in the future is change. Even if it doesn't go any further than some preliminary discussions; it always good to explore different ways of doing things.
