Does anybody know how long it takes for molds to form in a vacant home without A/C running? I am in Orlando, FL. I show many bank-owned properties to my clients. Many of these properties do not have any power and A/C is not running. I start to worry about these properties without A/C running as this hot and humid weather continues.

How long does it take for mold to form on the leftover food in your refrigerator? That should be a good indication of time. Not all molds are harmful or toxic either. Mold is a naturally occuring organism and is found everywhere and not all forms are toxic - after all pennicilin (sp?) was developed from mold. However, I understand your concern. I've been in some really nasty moldy houses. The first sign is that smell something like cat urine, then sometimes the small black dots on surfaces, but not all cases are the same.
