How Healthy Are You?

I am not nearly as healthy as I ought to be but I make sure I eat right.  I think this is a big proponent of continued success.  How long can an automobile continue to go down the road without fuel.  Our bodies are the same way.  This is not an original thought.  However, it is easy for me to slip into eating junk when in a hurry.

I quit smoking over twenty years ago.  Most of my friends don't smoke.  I do drink occasionally.  Maybe two or three times a year a couple drinks at the most.  I understand the importance of taking care of oneself, especially as I get older.

Lots of times folks say I look younger than I am.  I don't look like I have grown children.  I think it is a result of trying to take care of myself.  After all if I don't who will?

Every Thursday afternoon for the past few months I have gone into Lynchburg (I live about 25 miles from the city) and picked up my fresh locally grown vegetables.  I have subscribed to Horse & Buggy Produce.  I love it because I don't have to make decisions what to purchase you get what is in season and I have enjoyed fresh strawberries, cherries, peaches, corn and many other fresh fruits and vegetables that have been locally grown. 

I have also been taking Juice Plus.  I have noticed a big difference in my skin, nails and hair.  Not to mention I've lost a few inches here and there!  My energy level has significantly increased and I have less headaches and body aches on those days when I push myself to the limit.

I have not gotten the exercise thing implemented.  But I am taking baby steps here.  Getting healthy is a lifestyle and it is going to take some time for me to change the way I live.  I enjoy hanging out and working with like minded people.  It helps me keep my own thoughts on track and pushes me to be better.

Today is day 26 of changing my life.  I started a diet July 1st and am sticking with it.  I needed to start eating right and stop grazing at night and it's working.  I feel much better and friends are starting to notice which always leads to trying harder.

Dick congrats!  I was hoping that some folks that are trying to follow a healthy lifestyle would chime in!  It is great to meet like minded people.

Hi Nannette!  I'm a huge health nut.  I could probably write enough for a small book if I tried.  There is so much that people DO NOT KNOW when it comes to eathing healthy.  There are so many lies out there, things we are being told to do by "professionals" in the medical and food industries that are just bogus.  Here is an example of something I heard recently (I wrote it down immediately so I wouldn't forget)...

The American Heart Association Diet - After 4 years, only 6% were better; 15% were unchanged; and 79% were worse than before they changed their diet.  Anyone see something wrong with these numbers?  Obviously, we are being some things that just aren't true.

Our bodies take care of themselves if we take care of our bodies.  Our immune systems can fight off almost any disease.  Diseases are preventable, and they are reversable...this is a proven fact, but you will not hear this information from your doctor or your nutritionist.  I wrote a blog on this subject and there was so much material...let me just say it was too long.  It is almost impossible to write anything on this topic and keep it short while still giving people important information they need to know.

I changed my diet/lifestyle over 5 years ago.  I was headed in a pretty bad direction, on my way to diabetes, and possible heart trouble, things I now know after over 5 years of research.  My phone is always available to anyone wanting info, as is my email.  Feel free to contact me.

Nannette- Ummm this is a timely Post.  I stopped smoking on Dec. 26th....exactly 7 months ago and some days I wish I was still smoking.  Yes, I said it, but at least when I was smoking I had clothes that fit and I didn't look like a slob.  I've gained over 20 pounds just from eating junk. It was pitiful.  Then maybe 8 days ago I had had enough......enough of the junk food, enough of feeling horrible because of my new weight, and enough of the whole thing.

Out went the cookies, the ice cream, all the junk and I stopped eating at midnight while I blogged.  I have made myself eat breakfast, drink a whole lot more water, and cut the portions way down....pretty hard when my body now craved all that extra food.  But I'm a strong person, and I'm doing it.  In 8 days I have already lost 5.5 pounds.

Now this part is funny....yesterday when I weighed myself I was ecstatic over the loss, and came out singing a little ditty while yahooing that I'd lost these 5.5 pounds.....

My grandaughter  (5 years old) looks at me and says very seriously " Well, it doesn't look like it!" :( :(

Oh my goodness Kathy!  I would tell her if she was my grandchild, "I am going to remember that, young lady!" 

I am really really proud of you about the quit smoking thing.  I know it is an awesome accomplishment. It is so encouraging for me to hear of others that are trying to get healthy too.
