I have plenty of good Realtors whom I work with on a regular basis. Some work with Bay Vista Realty and some work with other firms. It doesn't matter since I consider us all co-workers in this crazy field.
So I got a call from a fellow Broker today who also owns a Title company. He has some of the hottest agents in the field and then he has some who never sell anything.
Now as a Broker, the rule of thumb is that an agent has to earn their keep, and some agents follow that rule to far. My friend is going to let 7 agents go because they don't produce over x amount of dollars and are taking up space.
So I asked him, how much do they cost you to keep in the office or on the books? He doesn't know. What about your E&O Insurance? He doesn't know. What about the agents own marketing materials? He doesn't care. The bottom line to him is the bottom line.
So I reminded him that I am not in his market and that I don't know the market, but I do know that Real Estate, at least, is still a people and personality business.
In this industry, it pays greatly to work with everyone who you can build a bridge with. If someone has the same ethical standards and business savvy as you, you should retain them in your database, if not your firm.
So we discussed my firm a little and he knows that I have a different system. If an Agent is content with 30K per annum then that is OK with me. If an agent is content with 500K per annum then that is equally fine. BUT if an agent is stuck at a low level and wanting more (not content) but not working towards that goal, then we have an issue. Likewise, if an agent is pushing a heart attack to maintain 200K, we have an issue. In order ot achieve success and the nice things that come with it, it is imperative that you have the time to enjoy those things.
SO we got back to his dilemma. It seems that he has other agents who are complaining that the "low producers" are in the same office, dragging down the reputation. Well, well, well.........Now we are on to something.
So I looked back at my firm. Never a complaint of that type. Never! In fact, my Top Producers are consummate team players. They are the ones who are at every event that I throw at my office. They are the ones who travel to trade shows and then bring back the info in the form of ideas. So what is the major difference?
In the Russian language, there is a saying that says, "A Fish always stinks from the head" so is my friend to blame? Am I not being greedy enough? (Remember, I am the Evil Republican here) I think neither is true, I think it boils down to a different market and a different train of thoughts.
I believe in the Wil Rose quote, "Success is not counted by how high you have climbed but by how many people you brought with you."
So am I wrong????????
